Sometimes Deepali wonders if she chose the Constitution, or if it chose her. Her journey began during the lockdown, when she joined an online session on constitutional awareness - not as a teacher, but as a listener. The words Justice, Liberty, Equality, Fraternity struck her with new force. In the classrooms where she once taught, obedience mattered more than thought. That day, something shifted.
Out of that moment grew the idea of the Constitutional School - a module where she wove stories, games, and the syllabus into creative experiments of learning. She saw children beginning to ask questions they had never asked before. “Plant the seed today, and ten years later a strong tree will grow”, she says, believing that every question was a seed of change.
In 2022, in search of a deeper relationship with the Constitution, Deepali joined Samvidhan Pracharak, where constitutional values were practised without hierarchy or compulsion. It was a space where people were free to find their own paths, and for her, it felt like the Constitution in action. Around the same time, she began refining her Constitutional School module, making constitutional education more experiential and grounded in everyday life.
Today, she works as a facilitator and fellow, travelling across Maharashtra to engage with diverse groups and organisations. Whether through collectives or independently, her work centres on creating spaces for dialogue and reflection. She recalls a training with We, The People Abhiyan, where she helped organise Citizen Adda sessions - moments that reinforced her belief that constitutional learning grows strongest when it is rooted in conversation and lived experience. Enthusiastic to learn, she also participated in the training herself and was deeply impressed by the modules, which later proved invaluable in her work with women - helping them recognise problems and connecting them to their rights. Her facilitation carries one simple line: “Main tumhare saath hoon, par safar tumhara hai. Jahan dikkat aayegi, wahan Deepali hai.”
“I am with you, but the journey is yours. Wherever difficulties arise, Deepali is there”
Deepali’s own foundation, Changbhal, extends her mission further. Guided by the motto “Change through Art”, it uses performances, workshops, and constitutional learning to build an egalitarian culture that reaches even the most marginalised.
For Deepali, knowledge was the beginning. The Constitution gave it direction. And today, she knows - “saari rahein samvidhan par hi aa rahi hain.”
“All paths ultimately lead back to the Constitution.”
